Decor-Print: Quality control for the decor industry

During the manufacturing of decor paper a pattern (like veneer) is printed on the paper in two up to five consecutive steps: after applying a color to the just 70 µm (0,07 mm) thin paper web, it has to be dried. Afterwards the printing machine can add the next color layer. Therefore, the width of the paper varies during the printing process.

The FiberVision measurement system controls the current width of the paper when restrained and after every drying process. Thus, setup time shortens and – in particular for patterns that need to be dimensionally accurate – the process reliability is considerably enhanced. In short: valuable uptime and raw materials are saved and customer complaints – after the product is already delivered – are avoided. Quality control and controlling access new dimensions.

The width measurement system is constructed robust. It works even with bending paper webs and when feed rolls are dirty or glittering. An integrated cooling mechanism saves the sensors even at process temperatures about 150 °C.

In order to adjust the system to the varying widths of the paper the sensor-devices are shifted with the assitance of adjustment lasers to the current paper border position. The sensors can determine their absolute position accurate to 1/100 mm. Thus, no further calibration – despite the initial one at the implementing of the system – is needed.

The system can be delivered as a custom turnkey solution for the decor printing industry and runs with 24 V DC. The system communicates with the central computer over the network (TCP/IP). For a feedback with regulation parameters both, the network or Profibus can be used.

 System features:

  • Width measurement of decor paper to 0,1 mm
  • Measurement even under hard conditions (bending paper web, dirty or glittering feed rolls)
  • Only a single calibration at the implementing of the system needed
  • Network over TCP/IP or Profibus
  • Central computer with GUI (graphical user interface) and result visualisation
  • Dirt and heat protection even for extreme environments
